(World Cultural Heritage Konstantinbasilika Trier. Wall paintings exposed to outdoor weathering, a conservation challenge)

These conference proceedings present the results of the interdisciplinary research project on the remains of Roman wall paintings at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Constantine's Basilica in Trier with numerous illustrations. The results are also significant for many other buildings, especially as unprotected wall paintings are also highly endangered elsewhere due to the direct impact of environmental influences such as rain, wind, sun and frost, and often pose major problems for monument conservators and architects. Therefore, the book also contains contributions on other significant case studies with solutions for consolidation and presentation at home and abroad. The book is divided into the following topics:

- The example of the Basilica of Constantine in Trier - Historical, art-historical and conservation aspects.
- Façade painting - restoration history and monument conservation
- Facade Painting - Methods of Conservation and Restoration

Above all, the strength of the book is shown in the very concrete and practical explanations of present-day and historical restoration measures and the materials used. In addition, a currently developed, very innovative conservation method is presented.
