Hornemann Institute has celebrated its 25th anniversary

The HAWK celebrated the 25th anniversary of its Hornemann Institute on 9 November 2023 with a ceremony attended by 160 invited guests.

On our website you will find a chronicle and an animation on the development of the institute from 1991 and its most important projects for the preservation of internationally endangered cultural heritage until 2023. In addition, a podcast on the start-up phase with the scientific advisory boards and the institute director was recorded.

You can find out more about the ceremony on 9 November 2023 in a video, the HAWK press release and the announcement of the event.

To mark its anniversary, the institute had previously invited guests to a conference. The interdisciplinary topic of pigment changes in paint and frame layers was a perfect fit for the institute's anniversary, as the institute has endeavoured to conduct interdisciplinary object research and integrate restoration science, art history, engineering and natural sciences from the outset. In addition, the topic was analysed from the perspective of various restoration disciplines, which are also included in the Institute's online courses and e-publishing.

To mark its anniversary, the institute also offered 25 scholarships for its English-language courses.
