"Hornemann price for Open Access" for the first time awarded in 2012

In January 2012 we awarded the first Hornemann Prize for Open Access on the occasion of the Hildesheimer Tag der Restaurierung (Hildesheim Day of Restoration) on January 27, 2012. Eligible are theses which are available free of charge on the Institute’s website. Criteria are strong demand as well as scientific quality, to be reviewed by an external scientific advisory board:

  • Dipl.-Rest. Dorit von Derschau M.A., Kulturstiftung des Bundes
  • Prof. Dr. Hannelore Roemich, Professor of Conservation Science, New York University, USA
  • Prof. Dr. Rolf Snethlage, Apl. Professor Universität München, lecturer of the University of Bamberg

The final winner was Olaf Pung. One jury member judged: "The submitted paper on the testing of reactive methacrylate adhesives for the restoration of museum stone objects is convincing due to the clearly presented background of the test methods and the sophisticated sample preparation. The tests are very well described and comprehensible. Failure analysis is included in an exemplary manner."
